Library Journal - Placements and Salaries 2003
Library Journal - Placements and Salaries 2003: Jobs! (Eventually): "The average job search took 4.5 months after graduation, almost three times as long as the average for the class of 2002."
I'm going to start really soon job searching - really I am. I did fill out one online application on Tuesday. Yesterday I saw a great opening, application due November 19th. I finally went online and got the phone number for the Free Trade Specialists so I can see if a letter from the university or transcripts will suffice as "proof of necessary educational background".
I'm thinking of just mass mailing a bunch of libraries - you know checking out the directory and sending out letters. Not sure if that's appropriate or not, but I guess it's worked for people before.
Suggestions always welcome.

TheStar.com - Ontario shelves move of archives
TheStar.com - Ontario shelves move of archives: "The provincial government has quietly killed the move of the Archives of Ontario to a badly needed new facility, putting at risk millions of historical documents"
I think it's a shame that a project like this is cut. I guess the government just can't afford it, but I'm sure not many people, including politicians, really appreciate the value of archival materials.

I found this site through librarian.net. It seems to be a really comprehensive guide to Weblogs including links to definitions and articles about blogs, weblog software and resources, examples of LIS blogs and weblogs about blogging.

We have a winner!
Well, Canada may have it's eye on the prize, but it seems the prize is gone. Oh well. maybe next time.

A media alert from the Government of Canada for something I actually care about.
Don't you love how they add that last line "funding announced today was provided for in teh March 2004 federal budget" ?

Vancouver hookers run book club
by Amy Carmichael.
I found this article by way of BookSlut about Vancouver prostitutes forming a book club.
"Life on the streets feeds people's desire to escape and books are as comforting to hookers, addicts and homeless people as they are to Oprah Winfrey."

North American Transportation Statistics
North American Transportation Statistics
This a new database that "presents information on transportation and transportation-related activities among Canada, the United States and Mexico, both within individual countries and between the countries. This database, presented in French, English, and Spanish is, accessible in table and time series formats, and covers twelve thematic areas, including transportation and the economy, transportation safety, transportation’s impact on energy and the environment, passenger and freight activity, and transportation and trade."
I have no use for it at the moment - but I'm sure there will come a time when knowing this exists will come in handy.
